Chapter 1 – The Meeting
Cutler Beckett sat at the former commodore’s desk. He had a smug grin on his face as he worked. He was writing up documents for the EITC that he would encourage Gov. Swann to sign the next day. A tiny knock at the door raised his eyes from the paper that lay in front on him to the large wooden door.
“Enter” He commanded. A maid of about 25 years of age entered the room carrying a silver tray with a pitcher, small teacup, a pitcher of cream, and a bowl of sugar.
“I’ve brought you the tea you requested, my lord.” She said as she stepped inside the room and walked over to the side of Lord Beckett’s desk.
The girl’s red hair caught Beckett’s attention. He took a moment and examined the girl. The top half of her hair was twisted into a bun at the crown of her head while the rest fell across her shoulders & down her back. Her face was round and sprinkled with freckles.
She set the tray down, picked up the pitcher and began to pour the tea into the little silver cup. Beckett leaned back in his chair for a moment and admired her simple beauty. His eyes rested on the curve of her bosom. He watched her chest rise and fall with the grace of her breath. She set down the tea pitcher and picked up the sugar bowl.
“One lump or two, my lord?” She asked as she shyly looked up at him.
“One.” He answered as he looked into her ocean blue eyes. She quickly returned her eyes to her duties. She picked up a spoon and scooped up one lump of sugar and sprinkled in into the steaming cup.
“Cream, my lord?” She asked slowly raising her eyes to his. He waited for her eyes to meet his before he answered.
“Yes.” He said slowly almost in a hiss as he grinned at her. She again returned her eyes to the tea pouring the cream into the cup. She took the spoon and slowly stirred it.
She picked up the cup and leaned over the side of his desk to place it in front of Lord Beckett. He took advantage of the view and let his eyes roam over her well-rounded breasts. As she began to rise back up Beckett set down the feather pen he had been writing with and picked up the teacup sipping it slowly.
“If you will not be needing anything else from me, my lord, may I take my leave?” She asked.
He again let his eyes roam her body. “What is your name, girl?”
“Maggie, my lord” She said as she bowed her head.
“Yes, Maggie, you may take your leave.” He answered.
Maggie gave him a quick curtsy and walked towards the door.
“Maggie.” Beckett called as she walked to the door. Maggie froze in her steps and slowly turned around to face him.
“Aye, my lord?” She answered questioningly.
“Thank you.” He replied.
“You’re welcome, my lord.” She said cautiously and then turned back towards the door. She shut the door behind her and leaned against it taking a deep breath. Maybe he’s not as bad as everyone says he is. She said to herself.
Chapter 2 – The Maid
Maggie walked back down the long corridor in which she had come. Every one of her footsteps echoed in the empty hall. It gave her an uncomfortable feeling like someone was watching her. She reached the staircase at the end of the hall & quickly descended them. She had grown up in the fort at Port Royal. She knew every hallway and every room. Everyone from the lowest servant to the Governor knew her. Her mother, Sabine, is a cook in the fort kitchens and her father, Arthur, is a former sailor. He had been a sailor years before but was injured in a sea battle and was put to shore. He now worked on the docks doing odd jobs here and there.
As she made her way back towards the servant’s quarters she began to think about her experience with Lord Beckett. Everyone had warned her that he was not a man she wanted to upset. She had seen him only but a few times and only in his passing. He was definitely a military man: very stern and poised. Still something about him gave her goose flesh whenever he was around. She didn’t even have to see him to know he had entered the room. His presence put everyone on edge. When she was ordered to bring him his tea her stomach turned upside down in anticipation of what it would be like to actually meet him.
She had to admit it wasn’t as uncomfortable as she thought it would be. She had noticed him sizing her up as soon as she entered the room. This did not bother her so much. Her red hair had caught many a man’s eye. Because of her station she was quickly dismissed as nothing but a nice distraction. No man had ever showed anymore interest in her than that. Her freckles and round face seem to be a deterrent for most men anyway so she need not worry about having to please any of them. That would be why she was 25 and still not wed. Her mother simply told her that once she was married she would know how to please her husband. She need not know anything that happens after marriage now.
To most Maggie seemed very naïve to the world. She looked very innocent and acted the part. Growing up in the fort she had learned that by keeping her mouth shut and her ears open that one could use the information heard for more than just idle chatter. She thought by taking Lord Beckett his tea she might be able to learn more about the EITC. She had heard small bits and pieces of conversation since Lord Beckett’s arrival but nothing she thought was of much value.
The first impression she had of him as she entered the room was that he was a stern man without any morals. Seeing his interest in her seemed to soften him a bit. At least he showed that he did have some soft spot even if it only be for young ladies serving him. She liked it when men showed interest in her. Not knowing the things that vex men only meant she was naïve to their motives.
She had feelings that she could not explain and no one to talk to about them. Why did her palms sweat so when she was around Lord Beckett earlier? When he smiled at her and said yes to the cream why had she felt a tingle betwixted her legs within her bloomers?
“Maggie!” someone yelled from the kitchen. Maggie realized that she had stopped and leaned up against the frame of the door to the kitchen as she pondered her feelings.
“Maggie! Please move! You be in me way lass!“ She looked up to see one of the manservants holding a hot bucket of water in front of her. No doubt the hot water was for a bath for one of the nobles staying in the fort.
“My apologies.” She said sincerely as she stepped aside and let him pass. Maggie tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and returned to the dishes she had been washing before she was called away to deliver Lord Beckett’s tea.
Chapter 3 – The Lord
Lord Beckett watched Maggie’s backside as she left the room. Her hips slowly swayed from side to side with each step.
Providential, I know, but a nice distraction none the less. He thought to himself as he licked his lips.
As the door shut behind her he wondered what he could ask for next to bring her back later that evening. For now he had work to be done. Getting the smell of her out of his mind would prove to be challenging. She smelled sweet like honeysuckle with just a touch of lye. He continued his work on the paperwork he would have Governor Swann make official tomorrow. His grin widened with every stroke of his feather pen.
He continued writing and began to think about what he would do once he had Jack’s compass. He would use it to find the chest that held Davy Jones’ heart. Then he would hold the heart captive in turn capturing Davy Jones himself & then he would become the most powerful man on the high seas! No one would dare mock him or disobey him again! Everyone one would follow his orders! Everyone would have to do all their trading through the EITC. If not they would not be able to transport any of their goods from port to port because he would send the Kracken after anyone who tried to sail HIS waters without his permission! He would put a stop to piracy and if the pirates did not submit to him he would force them to become a member of The Flying Dutchman’s crew or die! If they did submit he would make them a part of his armada and soon he would have the largest sea battalion in the world. No other country would dare try to defy him or England!
He thought a minute to himself,
First the entire sea and then country by country I will conquer the world!
He poured himself another cup of tea and his thoughts were brought back to Maggie. She was a simple girl. He noticed how nervous she was about serving him. He saw how her breath quickened when she leaned over to place his teacup in front of him. He liked the way she quivered so in his presence. It has been some time since a woman warmed his bed. Women were not a necessity in his life. They tended to meddle in his affairs and cause his men to be distracted. Besides most of the women that were worthy of him were already married. He did learn that they could be very good at gathering information for him though. His thoughts came back to Maggie. She could show to be very useful in more ways then one. He thought as he rubbed his finger across his chin and smiled.
Later that evening…
“Maggie!” Her mother Sabine called to her.
“Aye, I be here in the kitchen, mum.” She answered.
“Maggie, dear, come quickly!” Sabine shouted.
Maggie quickly dried her hands on her apron and swiftly walked to the parlor where her mother was cleaning. That evening there would be a gathering of high ranking military men after supper. Lord Beckett had called the meeting and specifically ordered that Maggie be the one to serve them and only Maggie. Sabine had been told that because it was a meeting of high ranking officers Lord Beckett did not want a lot of people coming in and out. Maggie’s heart almost jumped out of her chest. She swallowed hard.
Why would he ask for me to be the chosen servant? She thought.
Maggie smiled. He was impressed at how I poured his tea earlier. That’s why. She mentally patted herself on the back.
“Now go and put on your finest skirts and chemise. I will be there to help you into your nicest corset.” Sabine said. “You will need to look your best around the officers.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Maggie answered almost singing. She turned and practically skipped to her quarters.
Maggie stood just inside the door as the officers entered the meeting room. She took all their hats & coats as they entered. When her arms became full she put them in a near by closet and quickly returned to gather more. Lord Beckett had not arrived yet. Maggie wondered why he was not here yet. She had prepared everything as her mother had told her. There was coffee, tea, and rum sitting on a table at the back of the room. The officers had just finished supper and she was to serve them their after supper drinks while they discussed their plans for the EITC. The room was like the other parlors in the fort. Large plush chairs in all four corners of the room with long couches on either wall opposite each other. The center of the room was bare except for a large Oriental rug that took up most of the floor. Ten officers attended the meeting. They had taken seats as they pleased around the room. A couple of them had glanced at Maggie but for the most part they all regarded her as the maid she was. When Maggie had gathered all the coats and hats there were she put them with the rest and began her duties.
She picked up the tea tray first and walked to the officer closest on the left. He declined the tea. She slowly made her way around the room to each officer offering the tea. A couple of them accepted it, but for the most part they all declined it. She decided to take the rum around the room next. Again she started with the officer on her left. He eagerly accepted her offer. She again made her way around the room. As she came to the door it was quickly opened and Lord Beckett stepped inside. She was startled by how close she had been to spilling the rum all over him when he entered. She quickly regained her wits and went straight into a proper reverence.
Lord Beckett took notice of Maggie reverencing next to him her head bowed waiting for him to acknowledge her. He liked how she looked bowed down in front of him. He took a moment to enjoy his fantasy. Then after a beat he smiled putting his finger on her chin and lifting her face up so she was looking up at him and said,” Rise you up, dear. I am sure these men are parched from a long hard day of drills.” Maggie swallowed hard and slowly rose upwards. Lord Beckett continued into the room and took a seat in the largest chair in the far corner of the room.
Maggie finished serving the rum to the rest of the officers. She had poured everyone a glass. Instead of offering the coffee she thought it best to wait for someone to request it. She stood silently by the table awaiting one of them to tell her what they wanted.
“Maggie?” Beckett called to her holding up his empty glass. “Bring me the rum.” He ordered rather sternly. Maggie mentally smacked herself. How could she have forgotten to serve Lord Beckett? She was so flushed after almost running into him that she had forgotten to go back to him. She quickly grabbed the rum bottle and swiftly made her way across them room. She poured the rum into his glass and stepped aside bowing her head awaiting his next request. Beckett took notice of her black cotton skirt and white apron freshly starched. Her corset was black with white lace trim gently accenting her bosom.
“That will be all.” He told her. She quickly made her way back to the table in the back of the room berating herself the whole way. Maggie stood by the side of the table. Spine straight, head up, and hands folded nicely in front of her.
Beckett saw how upset she was about not serving him. I will let her ask my forgiveness later. He thought as he grinned.
“Gentlemen, thank you for attending this meeting…” Beckett said as he started the meeting. Maggie listened to every word Beckett said. She didn’t understand it all but she listened none the less. One or two officers asked her for refills during the meeting but for the most part she stood tall at the back. She kept her eye on Lord Beckett. The more she looked at him the more she found she liked certain features: his eyes for one. While at first glance seemed hard and cold began to soften when she gazed into them as he was speaking. He looked quite regal in his uniform. She continued to admire little things about him daydreaming all the while. She was awakened into reality when she heard Lord Beckett say, ”that concludes are meeting, gentlemen.” All the men stood up and gave a slight bow to Lord Beckett. Maggie quickly went to the closet and gathered the men’s coats and hats. She stood at the door and handed them back out. After the last gentleman had taken his belongings and left she turned around to take a deep breath and relax. Just as she was about to exhale she looked over to the chair where Beckett was still sitting looking at her. It startled her to see him sitting there. She put her hand to her chest. “Oh!” She gasp. “Sorry, to startle you Maggie. You did well today.” He said.
“Thank you, my lord.” She replied and quickly curtsied.
“Shut the door.” He ordered. “Please.” He added.
Chapter 4 – The Evening
Maggie lay in bed staring up at the ceiling. She lay there thinking about what Lord Beckett had asked of her this afternoon after the meeting. She wasn’t sure how to react when he told her what he wanted her to do. At first she was honored, but then she thought about it and realized she could get herself into a mess of trouble. When he handed her a pouch with coins in it she was overjoyed. No one had ever paid her so heavily for her duties. He told her to go to the tailor and to buy a dinner dress. He also told her to tell no one that she was buying the dress for herself. He said to tell the tailor she was getting it for one of the ladies staying at the fort. This way no one would be suspicious and ask where she got the money and why Lord Beckett was buying her a dress. Her heart sank when he told her that he didn’t want anyone to know the dress was for her. Seeing her disappointment he leaned over and whispered in her ear, “You’re beautiful…” Her eyes lit up and her cheeks crimsoned. She could still feel his warm breath on her neck and his fingers pushing her hair back over her shoulder. Maggie soon fell asleep dreaming of her evening with Lord Beckett.
****
Lord Beckett sat in his bedchamber going over the maps Mercer had delivered earlier that day. He stopped and rubbed his temples as he was developing a headache trying to locate Jack Sparrow and his compass. As he was rubbing his temples he glanced long ways and noticed an empty teacup sitting on his bed stand. He had carried it into his bedchamber after the officers meeting. It reminded him of Maggie and their conversation just shortly before he retired to his rooms. He wondered what she thought about what he had asked her to do for him. The corner of his lip curled up in a devious smile. He licked his lips and reveled in his brilliance. She would fit perfectly into his plan.
Beckett took a moment and fantasized about what Maggie would look like in her new dinner dress. He sat back in his chair and crossed his leg setting his foot on his knee. He stared at the teacup and imagined Maggie leaned over pouring him tea, her long red hair cascading down around her shoulders. He liked the way she catered to his every whim. He could ask her to do anything he wanted her to do. He smiled and called her over to him. Maggie looked up at him shyly and picked up the teacup. She walked to him slowly carrying the cup in front of her. She stopped in front of him and awaited his next request.
He sat up straight uncrossing his leg and setting his foot square on the floor. He took the teacup from her and set it down on a nearby table. Maggie released the cup and folded her hands in front of her. Beckett looked up at her admiring the way she quivered nervously in front of him. He rested his hands on her waist and sat her down in his lap. Maggie obeyed his silent command without question.
Not knowing where to look Maggie gazed down at her hands keeping her head bowed. Beckett ran his hand over her shoulder pushing her long silky hair back away from her face. He tucked her hair behind her ear and gazed at her with that wry smile. Maggie smiled meekly at him not sure what to do. Maggie’s heartbeat quickened as Beckett raised her face to his with one finger. Maggie’s lips parted instinctively. Beckett gazed in her eyes. She could see the longing in his eyes. Beckett took a long look at her face. Her round blue eyes showed her innocence. He knew she had never been touched by a man in this manner. Her eyes told him that she was not experienced in the art of pleasing men. He wondered how she managed to escape the clutches of some drunken officer all these years. Her round face showed no blemishes only freckles gingerly sprinkled across her nose and cheeks. Maggie took a deep nervous breath. Beckett leaned towards her. Maggie could feel his warm breath against her lips. She sucked in a hesitant breath. Instinctively she closed her eyes.
BAM, BAM, BAM! “Lord Beckett come quickly!,” A voice thundered from the other side of his bed chamber door. Beckett shook himself. He blinked a few times and realized someone was really knocking on the door.
“Come in!” Beckett ordered. Mercer opened the door and hurried in.
“Lord Beckett, the Governor has freed his daughter and they are headed to the docks!” Mercer informed him.
“Go to the docks and head them off then!” Beckett ordered through clenched teeth.
Mercer did as ordered. Beckett headed down the hall to his office.
Chapter 5 – The Dress
Maggie awoke early the next morning unaware of the ruckus the Governor and his daughter, Elizabeth, had caused during the night. Maggie dressed quickly. She grabbed the pouch of coins and tied them to her belt. She quickly ran down stairs to fetch Lord Beckett’s breakfast tray.
Maggie made a meal tray of fruit, cheese, and bread with a soft-boiled egg on the side. She also gathered a tea tray together for Lord Beckett’s morning tea. With the help of another servant she carried the meal tray and the tea tray to Lord Beckett’s office. Maggie gently tapped on the door.
“Who is it?” Lord Beckett sneered.
“It is I, Lord Beckett, Maggie with your breakfast and tea trays.” Maggie replied.
“Enter” Beckett ordered.
Maggie and the other servant entered his office. Maggie set the tea tray down on a table and took the meal tray from the other servant. “Thank you,” she whispered. The other servant went back to the kitchen to finisher her duties. Maggie began to serve Lord Beckett his breakfast. She noticed Lord Beckett looked a bit tired like he had not had a good night’s rest the night before. She wondered if he had dreamed of her like she dreamed of him. She let her mind wonder to the dream she had had the night before. A smile crossed her face but was quickly replaced with shock as she heard Lord Beckett say, “That won’t be necessary.”
Beckett waved her away with his hand. Maggie was taken aback. Seeing her standing there Beckett sternly said, “You are dismissed, Maggie.”
Maggie couldn’t understand why Lord Beckett didn’t want her to continue serving him this morning. He seemed preoccupied with his work, but she could have served him anyway. All of his kindness was gone. His eyes were cold. It was as if she was just another servant girl. Maggie did not wish to upset his lordship further so she left as he had commanded.
Outside his office door Maggie began to silently cry. Tears began slowly falling down her cheeks. Maggie didn’t know how she had fallen from Lord Beckett’s grace. She had done everything he asked of her thus far. Maggie wiped the tears from her face. As she wiped her hand on her apron the pouch of coins jingled. The dress! She was supposed to go buy a dress! Maybe that’s why his was so curt with her. She hadn’t bought the dress he told her to yet. Maggie quickly ran back to her quarters and discarded her apron. She grabbed her kerchief and headed into town to buy her dress. No one would miss her because everyone thought she was serving Lord Beckett his breakfast. No one knew she had been dismissed from her duties.
**
Beckett knew he had hurt Maggie’s feelings when he dismissed her. He didn’t have time for any distractions this morning. As much as he hated to admit it Maggie was definitely becoming a distraction to him. He couldn’t have her round hips swaying around his office this morning nor her red curls dangling in front of him as she poured his tea. The rise and fall of her chest as she took in deep nervous breaths wasn’t conclusive to his current mind frame either.
Elizabeth had held him at gunpoint last night and demanded he sign the pardon he had reserved for Jack Sparrow. Giving it to her was not what caused his irritation this morning. Not knowing where to find the heart of Davy Jones was what was consuming him this morning. He had gone over every map he had found and still was unable to locate the island that held the chest.
Beckett took a long breath and ate a piece of the cheese Maggie had brought him. As he sunk his teeth into the cheese he wondered what it would be like to sink his teeth into Maggie’s plump breast. The smell of her inflamed his nostrils. He wanted to show Maggie how to please a man. He wanted to teach her how to please him. He finished the piece of cheese and went back to his maps. Seducing Maggie would have to wait for another time. Right now he had to find the chest. He grinned to himself. The dead man’s chest, that is.
**
Maggie took longer than she wanted to picking up her dress. The tailor’s seem to be a very busy place this morning. No one really paid her much attention. They all knew she was a servant girl from the fort and just assumed she was fetching a dress for one of the noble ladies. The tailor didn’t even pay her any mind until she showed him her pouch full of coins. Then he quickly showed her the few dresses he had. She told him that the Lady that the dress was for asked that it be altered before Maggie brought it back. He told her that would be difficult to do seeing as the Lady was not here. Maggie told him that the Lady was about the same size Maggie was and told Maggie to fit it to her size. The tailor looked around briefly and then asked her to come back behind the counter and into a small fitting room. Normally the tailor fitted his clients in the front room where all could see his work, but he did not want anyone to see he was fitting a servant girl into a Ladies dress. Maggie knew her place and shrugged the insult off. She didn’t mind much for she got a beautiful new dress!
Maggie set the box the dress was in on her bed and secured the door to her sleeping quarters. She didn’t want anyone walking in on her whilst she admire her new dress. She opened the box and pulled it out. It was a beautiful forest green. The sleeves were long and had lace cuffs. The skirt was adorned with simple gold buttons that lined the bottom hem. She couldn’t be more pleased. She knew Lord Beckett would adore her in it. She hugged the dress tightly. She took one last look at it and put it back in the box hiding it under her bed. Maggie smiled as she returned to her duties.

Chapter 6 – The Plan
Weeks passed by and Lord Beckett hadn’t called for Maggie once. Maggie cried herself to sleep every night. When she would try to take him his breakfast tray Mercer always stopped her at the door and told her to leave the tray with him. He would wait until she left and then he would take the tray into Lord Beckett’s office. One time she waited after she turned the corner and peeked back around to see Mercer take the tray in. She was hoping to hear Lord Beckett’s voice or to catch a glimpse of him. She missed serving him dearly. She cursed herself for thinking he could actually be interested in her. A servant girl and a Lord: not in this lifetime. Maggie wiped a tear from her cheek and went back to her duties.
Maggie wondered if he had forgotten about what he had asked her to do. She hadn’t forgotten. She wanted to please him so badly. He told her he would send a missive to her when she was to set the plan into action. She wondered why he had asked her to wear a lady’s dress and wait down by the docks anyway. What significance would that have? Maggie shrugged it off. He probably decided she wasn’t pretty enough and that’s why he hadn’t sent her a missive. Maybe he found another girl to do his bidding. Lord knows there are prettier serving girls than she at the fort. Maggie’s heart sank. She wished she wasn’t so round and pudgy. Maggie picked up the pile of sheets from all the rooms she had cleaned and took it down to the washing room.
**
Beckett stood looking out the window of his office. He watched as the men did their drills. He smiled. He wondered how Maggie was fairing. He knew she was probably heartsick for him. He wanted her to yearn for him so when he sent her the missive telling her to go down to the docks she would be so excited that she wouldn’t question what would happen next. He didn’t tell her that she was just a pawn in his little game.
He needed Governor Swann’s complete cooperation. He knew that if Governor Swann thought that Beckett had caught up with Elizabeth that he would do anything to keep Beckett from harming her. Having Maggie pose as Elizabeth down at the docks would be just the thing to convince Governor Swann surrender the officer that assisted him in his escape attempt. As it stood Governor Swann knew his daughter had eluded Lord Beckett. Mercer had told both he and Governor Swan that Elizabeth had been seen with Jack Sparrow in Tortuga not too long ago. Knowing Elizabeth was with Jack made Governor Swann relax a bit. Even if he didn’t like Jack he would rather his daughter be with him than Cutler Beckett. This comfort would soon be taken away for Lord Beckett knew that once Governor Swann thought that Elizabeth had been captured he would give up the officer’s name that was helping him.
**
Another week went by and there was still no word from Lord Beckett. Maggie accepted the fact that she was a mere serving girl and that her existence here was only to serve. Everyday she waited for a missive to come for her, but alas none came. She decided to forget the time she had shared with Lord Beckett. It’s not like anything really had happened between them anyway. So what if he told her she was beautiful. Who cares?
Maggie cares. Maggie cares deeply. No matter how she tried to forget him she dreamed about him every night. She took out the dress every night hoping to put it on for him and every night she tucked it back under her bed and silently cried to sleep. Tonight was no different. Maggie turned over and closed her eyes tightly trying to get his image out of her head.
As Maggie lay there trying to comfort herself she heard a knock on the door. Maggie jumped out of bed and bolted for the door. She gathered her composure at the door and then gently opened it. Mercer stood there looking at her in her nightgown disapprovingly. Maggie realized that in her excitement she forgot to put on her dressing robe. Her cheeks crimsoned and she looked down at the floor.
“Lord Beckett has a missive for you.” He said. She looked up at him and reached out for the letter. He handed it to her. He then turned around and was gone. She quickly shut the door and opened the missive.
Maggie,
The time has come for you to do what I
have asked of you. I know you will not
disappoint me.
Lord Cutler Beckett
Maggie’s heart raced. She knew that she had no time to waste. She pulled out the dress and put it on. She cursed herself for being so stupid as to think she could lace it up by herself. Lord Beckett would not be happy with her if she was not at her mark at the appropriate time. Maggie took a deep breath and decided she would have to wake up her mother. She knew it would be risky, but it was the only way to get her dress laced up.
Maggie went into her mother’s quarters where she lay sleeping. “Mum” She whispered. “Mum, wake up.” Sabine turned over groggy eyed and blinked as she tried to focus on Maggie.
“Maggie? What’s wrong girl? Why are you waking me up at this hour of the night?” Sabine sat up in bed and took a good look at Maggie. Her eyes widened with surprise.
“Mum, I can’t explain. I just need you to lace up my dress for me, please?” She pleaded.
“Where did you get that dress? You didn’t steal it did you? If you stole it…” Maggie cut her mother off.
“No, mum, I didn’t steal it. Lord Beckett got it for me. Now will you please help me lace it up?” She asked.
“Lord Becket?!? What are you talking about? Why would Lord Beckett buy you a lady’s dress?” She asked.
“I don’t have time to explain right now, mum. Please just lace me up. Lord Beckett has asked me to serve him this evening and he wants me to wear this dress. Now please just lace me up!” Maggie said exasperated.
“He wants you to serve him tonight?” Sabine said raising an eyebrow.
“Yes, tonight.” Maggie turned her back to her mother hoping it would encourage her to start lacing her up.
“What kind of service does he require of you at such a late hour?” Sabine prodded as she began putting the laces through the holes.
“I can not tell you that.” Maggie answered. Sabine stopped and gave her the eye. Maggie turned her head towards her mother. Maggie let out a deep breath and told her mother everything. Sabine finished lacing her up and turned her around to get a good look at her.
“I don’t agree with you getting mixed up in Lord Beckett’s affairs.” She said sternly. “But I know you don’t have a choice in the matter. We are but servants and must follow our Lord’s orders. That is our lot in life. We are here only to serve.” Maggie hugged her mother for understanding. Sabine smiled at her. “You look beautiful. Now lets put some rouge on your cheeks.” Maggie’s eyes lit up.
Maggie looked into her mother’s looking glass and smiled. Her cheeks and lips were red with rouge. Her hair fell down around her shoulders. She felt beautiful. Sabine hugged her. Maggie quickly hugged her back and gathered up her skirts. Maggie quietly opened the door and stepped into the hallway. She gently shut the door behind her and glanced from side to side. The hallway was clear.
**
It was dark in the streets of Port Royale. The only sounds were from the pub at the dock. Maggie quickly made her way to the spot where Lord Beckett had told her to wait. Maggie knew the docks were no place for a lady to be alone let alone a servant girl. She was glad she stole a knife from the kitchen and tucked it in her bodice. It made her feel safe knowing she could at least try to defend herself if someone attacked her. Maggie looked up towards Lord Beckett’s office. She saw him standing at his office window. Her heart skipped a beat to see him standing there. She smiled and took a deep breath.
**
Lord Beckett glanced out his office window at the docks. He saw Maggie and smiled. His plan was working out nicely. Beckett walked to the door to the office and opened it to see Mercer standing guard.
“Bring me Governor Swann.” He ordered. Mercer nodded and headed to the lower level of the fort where Governor Swann was being held captive. Beckett stepped back inside his office and continued to watch Maggie.
He was amazed at how beautiful she looked even from this distance. She was standing in the moonlight facing him. He crossed his arms and rubbed his finger along his chin. The wind was gently blowing her hair around her face. He licked his lips at the thought of kissing her right now
His fantasy was quickly interrupted by Mercer’s return. Governor Swann was in chains.
“Come here, Governor. I want you to see something.” Beckett ordered. Mercer pushed Governor Swann towards the window.
Governor Swann looked out the window. “Elizabeth!” He said in disbelief. Just then a soldier came up behind Maggie putting his hand over her mouth. He wrapped his other arm around her waist pinning her arms down.
Governor Swann lunged forward. “No!” He yelled.
Beckett laughed. “You see, no one escapes me, Governor Swann.”
**
Maggie stood at the dock looking up at Beckett’s window waiting for him to return. As she waited she straightened her dress and pushed back the hair that was fluttering about her face in the wind. When she looked back up he was standing there looking back at her. She saw him cross his arms and run his finger along his chin. He turned and beckoned someone to join him. Another man soon joined him. Both of them were looking at her. She wondered why they were just standing there looking down at her. Suddenly someone grabbed her from behind covering her mouth. Maggie was terrified. Maggie tried to scream, but it was no use. Maggie kicked and jerked about, but the man had a tight hold on her.
“Be still!” He hissed in her ear tightening his grip around her mouth and waist. Maggie winced at the pain. Tears were streaming down her face. The man jerked her around to face Beckett’s office.
Chapter 7 – The Capture
Beckett watched as Maggie struggled with the soldier. Seeing her wriggling in the soldier’s arms stirred something up inside him. The corner of his mouth went up in a devious grin. He enjoyed watching her struggle. He imagined what she would feel like pinned beneath him. He pictured her frightened of him pleading with him to please be gentle with her.
“Release her, Beckett!” Governor Swann ordered. Beckett raised an eyebrow at Governor Swann.
“I do not think you are in any position to being giving orders, Governor.” Beckett said in a low calm voice.
Beckett raised his arm and gave a hand signal to the soldier.
**
Another soldier came out of the darkness. The soldier with his arm around her waist loosened his grip. Maggie threw up her arm and slapped the approaching soldier. He was taken aback by the surprise attack. He grabbed Maggie’s arms and tied them up behind her.
“That was not a wise move, girl!” He growled at her.
The soldier that was holding his hand over her mouth pulled his hand away only to replace it with a strip of cloth. Maggie tried to scream, but the first soldier pulled his dagger out and held it to her throat. Maggie sucked in a hesitant breath as she felt the cold steel of the blade against her throat. She closed her eyes tight releasing a stream of tears down her cheek.
“I would nay be doing that if I were ye.” He cautioned. Maggie let out a whimper as the cloth was tied tightly behind her head. As Maggie’s chest heaved with her fearful breaths a glint of metal caught the second soldier’s eye.
“What be this?” He questioned as he put his hand down Maggie’s bodice. Maggie felt ill. He pulled out the knife Maggie had hidden. Shaking his head and tsking he put the knife in his belt.
Maggie looked helplessly up at Lord Beckett pleading with her eyes for his help, but found none. He just stood there watching her struggle unsuccessfully.
**
“Stop, you’re hurting her!” Governor Swann cried out.
Beckett just smiled and watched as Maggie was bound and gagged. The stirring inside Beckett grew. He took a deep breath and let out a small growl from the back of his throat only audible to him. He licked his lips and adjusted his posture to compensate for the intense arousal he felt within himself.
Beckett brought up his hand again and the soldiers ceased their attack on Maggie.
Beckett turned towards Governor Swann. “Give up the officer that is helping you nd your daughter will not be harmed farther.” Beckett said looking down his nose at him.
“That’s low even for you Beckett!” Governor Swann said insultingly.
Beckett’s eyes turned from harsh to ice as he began to raise his arm again.
**
One of the soldiers pulled out his pistol and aimed it at Maggie’s head. Maggie’s eyes widened with fear. Why was Lord Beckett allowing this to happen to her?
**
Governor Swann looked at him in disbelief. “It’s Captain Smythe! It’s Captain Smythe! Don’t harm my daughter!”
“Wise choice, Governor.” Beckett replied.
Becket lowered his hand. He turned and walked back into his office. Mercer escorted Governor Swann back down to the cells below.
***
The soldier behind Maggie took the knife away from her throat and the other soldier lowered his pistol away from her head. Maggie saw her chance to escape and threw her shoulders into the soldier with the knife knocking him backwards. She tried to take off running but the soldier with the pistol grabbed her arm and spun her around to where her breasts were pinned up against his chest.
“You shouldn’t have done that, wench.” He sneered face to face with her.
He pulled down her gag. He leaned in as if to kiss her making her grimace. Maggie tried to pull her face away from his. On instinct she threw her knee up between his thighs. He bellowed and clutched himself in pain dropping his pistol to the ground. Maggie shoved him into the second soldier. Both of the men collapsed backwards on to the ground. Maggie turned and ran for the fort with her arms still bound behind her.
Maggie was so distressed from her abuse that she couldn’t tell which way she was going. The darkness and her tears didn’t help her vision either. Maggie turned to see if the soldiers were after her. The soldier that had been holding her at knifepoint was not far behind her. She screamed in fear and bolted forward quickly not aware of the loose cobblestone ahead of her. Maggie twisted her ankle on the uneven ground and fell face first on the stone road smacking her head against the ground. The pain was unbearable. Maggie’s vision blurred and began to fade. The soldier chasing her caught up to her and flipped her over. Maggie lifted her head up to see the soldier but was unable to hold it up. It fell back hitting the ground behind her. Maggie let her head fall to one side. Her vision reddened and then was no more.
**
Mercer returned to Beckett’s office. “Lord, there seems to be a situation.” He said. Beckett looked at him waiting on him to explain. Mercer looked towards the door and said, “Come.”
The soldier carried Maggie into Beckett’s office. Beckett’s eyes widened when he saw the blood coming from her head. “What happened?” He hissed.
“She tried to escape, my lord.” The soldier answered.
Beckett rolled his eyes and took an indignant breath. “Put her in my chambers and go and wake the physic.” He ordered.
“But, my lord.” Mercer stared to protest but Beckett silenced him with a look.
Mercer bowed. “Yes, my lord.”
“Mercer,” Beckett called. “Make sure the physic knows that this visit is of the utmost secrecy.”
Mercer nodded in understanding. The soldier walked into Lord Beckett’s chambers with Beckett following behind him. The soldier looked around the room unsure of where to put Maggie. “My Lord, where shall I lay her?” He asked.
Beckett motioned towards the bed. “The blood, my Lord?” The soldier looked worried.
“Set her down unless you wish to continue holding her.” Beckett sneered. The soldier shook his head and set her down on Lord Beckett’s bed. The soldier rolled her to one side and untied her hands. Maggie’s bleeding head rolled onto Beckett’s pillow. The soldier looked at Beckett with worry in his eyes. Beckett let out an exasperated breath.
“Leave us.” Beckett ordered.
The soldier quickly left Beckett’s chambers. Beckett walked up to the bed and looked at Maggie’s head. He pushed a strand of hair away from her face careful not to get her blood on his finger. He stood there gazing down at her. A sheen of sweat glistened off her face, throat and chest. He leaned down next to her ear and whispered as he looked down at her limp form. “Maggie, what have you done to yourself, girl?”
Beckett stood up and slowly paced the floor next to his bed wondering what Maggie would think when she woke up in his bed the next morning. A lustful grin spread across his face.
